MARIN OPEN STUDIOS

(posted 5/2/2008) - Jane Heaphy and Dorallen Davis are hosting Marin Open Studios on May 10 and 11, 2008 from 11am to 6pm both days.

This weekend we are showcasing our latest landscapes, portraits/figures and still lifes as well as bringing pieces from our galleries to our studio for collectors and friends to see.

MARIN OPEN STUDIO

(posted 4/23/2007) - Visit our Open Studio, May, 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Jane Heaphy and Dorallen Davis, Marin Art School owners and instructors will be displaying their latest creations throughout this weekend as well as being on hand with information and material about Marin Art School. This is a one time event where the school is "magically" transformed from classrooms to Gallery complete with soft music, wine and light snack. Please come by and visit - view the map to our studio.


WE'RE GOING TO ITALY

(posted 4/23/2007) - Thirteen students, two instructors and two "friends" of students, will be embarking September 28th on a painting workshop to Tuscany Italy and will be staying in a Castle Villa's 20 miles just outside of Florence Italy. The group meets once a month for an evening of food/wine and sharing of information. Dorallen and Jane are schooling the group as to equipment, packing and exploring maps and places of interest. We will paint, on location, from 9a.m - 12 noon, take an Italy lunch and paint again from 2p.m - 5p.m. Monday thru Thursday, for both weeks. On Thursday evenings MAS will host an evening dinner and critique. We will all return on October 14th and school will resume on Wed. October 17th.

A European workshop will be an annual event and, if interested, please let us know.


PAINTING EN PLEIN AIR

(posted 4/23/2007) - It looks like the sun is finally here to stay and we are going outside. One instructor will go out on location with the students while another will stay in with students working in black and white charcoal, artist desiring to work from life inside and new students. We are also exploring taking outside our figure/portrait afternoon model sessions.


One Year Anniversary

(posted 1/23/2007) - Marin Art School has just celebrated a successful one year anniversary on January 15th. We are very proud of the large number of students that started with us, and continue, demonstrating tremendous growth and success in their drawing/painting skills.

Jove Wang Workshop A Success

(posted 1/23/2007) - The Jove Wang workshop this month was a tremendous success. Students were mesmerized by the charcoal and oil painting demonstrated by the master, as well as the direction and comments that he provided and MAS is dedicated to carrying on his teachings and philosophy. We are now looking forward to the Manuel Neri workshop in February.

First MAS Scholarship Awarded

New Instructor at MAS

Carol Myer, a longtime member of the Art League has been hired by Marin Art School as a substitute teacher and marketing specialist.


New Session

The next session starts on Wednesday, October 11th, 2006. Two new courses, Advanced Drawing and Advanced Painting, will be offered.


Workshop with Manuel Neri

MAS is honored to announce that internationally acclaimed artist, Manuel Neri, will present a Three-Day Figurative Workshop in clay. The workshop dates are February 4th - 6th 2007 and is limited to 10 artists. Experienced artists in figurative work (two dimensional OK) please inquire.


Workshop with Jove Wang

MAS is honored to announce that world renowned artist, Jove Wang, will give a workshop at the Marin Art School in January of 2007. This workshop is full.


Workshop Trip to Corsica

MAS directors Jane Heaphy and Dorallen Davis are currently planning a workshop trip to Corsica and Paris in September 2007. Dates and pricing are currently being discussed. Please let MAS know now if you might be interested in this workshop.


Student Art Show Follow-up

Hundreds of people showed their support and love of art by visiting the First Annual Marin Art School Student Show at the Art League of Northern California's Gallery 1. Paintings were sold by artists Caroline Berry and Dianne Hansen. Bay Area artist, Kay Carlson was the juror.

STUDENT ART SHOW

Every student will have one piece of artwork�
Marin Art School has leased the Art League of Northern California�s Gallery 1 for a student show. All students are eligible to hang one piece of artwork (drawing/study/painting). Dorallen Davis and Jane Heaphy will select a piece of artwork by each student for the show. Please email or call to set up a time to meet with Jane and Dorallen for selection. Only artwork that has been completed since January of 2006 will be considered.

Juried Show for Students�
In addition to the Student show there will also be a juried Student show. Kay Carlson will be the juror. There will be a $5 fee for each piece submitted. Only artwork that has been completed since January of 2006 will be considered.

Vitals
All students that have studied at MAS for at least one session since January, 2006 are eligible for the show.
All students are guaranteed one painting in the student show.

Artists Reception
There will be a wine and cheese reception on Saturday, August 12th from 5-8pm. Please invite family and friends to come meet the artists.

UPCOMING WORKSHOP

3 Day Workshop with Jove Wang
Jove Wang, master painter and teacher (www.JoveWang.com) will teach a 3 day workshop at the Marin Art School January 6-8, 2007. The cost is $500. Space is limited to 20 students and we expect this workshop to fill-up fast. Call now for details and to reserve your space. This workshop is not recommended for beginning students.

Recommended additional colors: Indian yellow, winsor red, cadmium red dark, burnt sienna, raw umber and viridian green.

Additional supplies: Linseed or stand oil or Liquin, Paper towels (highly recommend Viva), personal trash receptacle (paper, plastic or cloth), Turpenoid or Gamsol, easel and palette (please call for advice), clamps, pliers, masking tape, sunscreen and hat, umbrella with clamp and be ready to layer up or layer down, rain or shine.


MONET SHOW FOLLOW-UP

Jane and Dorallen accompanied 15 MAS students to the �Monet in Normandy� exhibit at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco on July 7th. They walked the exhibit together and discussed how Monet and Marin Art School relate. We then all had a wonderful lunch and discussion at the Beach Chalet in San Francisco.
