Class MaterialsDRAWING ISmooth Newsprint Pad (18x24), vine charcoal (soft and extra soft), kneaded eraser, small chamois (most cost effective from a auto supply store), sketchbook, inexpensive mechanical pencils (lead weight 0.7 and 0.9mm), notebook, pencil and pen.DRAWING IISee DRAWING I and add:Pad of white drawing paper (18x24) LANDSCAPE PAINTINGMandatory colors: (please do not buy student grade paints, in the long run they cost you more): Cadmium yellow, cad yellow pale, lemon yellow, cad Orange, yellow ochre, alizarin crimson, permanent rose, ultramarine blue, Severes blue (Rembrandt only), titanium white (large tube).Recommended additional colors: Indian yellow, winsor red, cadmium red dark, burnt sienna, raw umber and viridian green. Additional supplies: Linseed or stand oil or Liquin, Paper towels (highly recommend Viva), personal trash receptacle (paper, plastic or cloth), Turpenoid or Gamsol, easel and palette (please call for advice), clamps, pliers, masking tape, sunscreen and hat, umbrella with clamp and be ready to layer up or layer down, rain or shine. PAINTING IPlease don't purchase student grade paint. Artist grade is more expensive; however, the pigment is more intense, the quality is better and, in the long run, will save you money.Colors: Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red, Permanent Rose, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Orange, Yellow Ochre, Ultramarine Blue (sometimes call French Ultramarine), Sevres Blue (Rembrandt only), and Titanium white (large tube) Brushes: A variety of sizes of hog bristle paintbrushes are recommended. Filberts are extremely useful and you should have several of each: #2, #4, #6 and #8. Brush preferences will evolve with experience, i.e., flats, bright and rounds…….but lets' start with filberts. Canvas: To start, bring two 11x14" canvas panels or stretched canvas. Also needed: Palette surface for laying out and mixing paint (paper palette pads are OK), Palette knife/s, personal trash receptacle (paper or plastic), Odorless thinner such as turpenoid or gamsol (not paint thinner), paper towels (we recommend Viva, cloth rags are acceptable) and container/s with a lid for solvent. Brushes: #4 round for drawing and details (sabelline is fine: no bristle brushes) #7 round or #10 A 1 1/2 wash brush Additions will be added as needed Palette and Paper: 2 white "San Francisco Slant" palettes. If you already have palettes, bring to first class. 140 cold press paper or block or heavier. Minimum 15" in any direction. Quality is important. Equipment: Spray water bottle, viva paper towels, white eraser, light grey watercolor pencil and a container for supplies. |
